Over 500 farmers benefit from Ksh 17M water pump set project

More than 500 farmers across Mandera North benefit from Ksh 17 million water pumpset project meant for irrigating farms.
Donated by Mandera County Government through area mca for Sala Abdirashid Hassan the water pump set will benefit more than 150 farms both large and small scale farms.
Area MCA who handed over the donation to the farmers said there was need to include such projects in the budget as this will increase local’s economic and social life.
Area Deputy Director of irrigation Nicholas Omondi said the pump sets will help  the farmers in increasing crop produce towards sustainable self reliance and food security.
He asked the farmers to handle the sets with care so as to benefit from the projects.
Farmers across the sub-county appreciated  the county’s donation saying this will help in self reliance.
Mandera North East the hardest hit by drought that has also resulted in deaths of livestock, perennial dry spell has prompted section of pastoralist to turn to farming a need they said will help them in food security.
