Vectus Kenya works with Sacco’s to deliver quality water solutions

The drought in Kenya is worsening across 13 counties owing to the prevailing hot weather conditions across the country.

A report that was released to the media by the National Drought Management Authority shows that the most hit regions include North Eastern counties of Garissa, Marsabit, Wajir and Mandera.

Thousands of people and hundreds of livestock lacks clean water and pasture respectively. Mid last year, some parts of the country received exceptionally heavy rains, resulting in flash floods that led to loss of lives and massive destruction of properties. This is due to lack of effective water harvesting and storage mechanisms.

Over the past five years, Vectus Kenya Limited has committed itself in providing high quality water tanks at affordable rates while building his network and creating long term business relationships with the customers and suppliers.

Speaking with Waterkenya recently, Vectus CEO Preet Chheda said that providing quality water solutions to their customers has seen them remain one of the top companies in the water industry.

“We pride ourselves with providing quality water solutions to our esteemed customers all over Kenya”, Mr Chheda said.

Vectus Kenya was started in 2014 and since inception, the company has provided water tanks in most parts of the country including the Arid and Semi-Arid-land Counties(ASALC) such as Marsabit-Lodwar, Turkana County at Kakuma.

They have also worked with the Sacco’s s in Kenya such Sacco’s in Maua, Meru County, Qwetu in Taita Taveta County and others in Nyanza.

Its maintaining quality products that has enabled them to transform many households. During production, they always ensure the highest quality and standards are maintained as set by the Kenya Bureau of Standards.

The company imports raw materials and manufactures tanks using Germany machinery equipment that is efficient and environmentally friendly. According to Mr. Chheda, they recycle any commodity that does not match their stringent required standards to avoid pollution.

Working with the Sacco’s helps some of their customers purchase the products on credit. “We are looking forward to work with more Sacco’s and microfinance institutions because they are able to access and deliver water products in remote areas”, Mr. Chheda noted.

The company is set to begin producing water drums of 5 litres to 210 litres under one roof, underground water tanks, agricultural water tanks, wire products like chain links, barbed wire and other metal equipment.

However, this noble journey has encountered some challenges. Sometimes they experience delays during importation of the raw materials as well as high cost of transport when fuel prices surge.

He urged the national government and county governments to consider partnering with all the relevant companies in the water industry to ensure every household gets clean, safe water and quality sanitation services. He also asked the county governments to initiate key programmes that will equip the farmers and youth with the relevant skills and knowledge on how to harvest and store water in this coming long rains to avoid perennial water shortages.

Mr. Chheda holds BA(Hons) in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester and has worked with implementation of IT Systems.
